Innovation voucher from Bavaria for a joint research project in the field of robocasting

We are pleased that Bayern Innovativ GmbH https://www.bayern-innovativ.de has granted our engineering office an Innovation Voucher Bavaria on behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy .


Especially at a time when research and technology funding programs are only awarded to a very limited extent, this funding represents a special recognition of our development work and creates the basis for an ambitious research project.


Research in close collaboration with FAU


The project is being carried out jointly with the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) , Department of Materials Science, Chair of Glass and Ceramics (http://www.glass-ceramics.uni-erlangen.de ). The scientific contacts are PD Dr.-Ing. habil. Tobias Fey and Dr. Larissa Wahl .


The project title is:

"Robocasting of functionally graded ceramic structures with an electrically conductive core and an electrically insulating outer shell"


Project goal:

The focus is on the development of novel ceramic structures that selectively combine different electrical properties within a single component. The additive manufacturing process Robocasting is used for this purpose.


In ceramic robocasting , a printable ceramic paste is applied layer by layer through a fine nozzle under computer control. This creates a three-dimensional structure from individual material webs, with a precisely adjustable, complex microstructure, even extending to multi-material structures. Subsequent thermal processing steps, particularly drying and sintering , ultimately result in a complex ceramic component.


Significance for future applications:

Robocasting opens up new possibilities for innovative manufacturing processes and ceramic materials that meet the requirements of future industrial applications. The process has high potential for applications in the areas of mobility, energy supply, health, and safety. At the same time, resource and energy efficiency, as well as sustainability across the entire material cycle, are becoming increasingly important.
